Grand Theft Auto V is a long, detailed and brutal criminal saga, with murders and robberies, car thefts and fights, casinos and romance, and its unrivaled urban soundtrack. Though it’s been here since 2013, it has received lots of updates, so many gamers still download GTA V in 2019 and enjoy it.
In 2019 one can’t help comparing GTA V to Red Dead Redemption II, and these two games are as different in their appearance as in the story. Dramatic RDR2 features almost photorealistic visuals, while GTA V, just as spectacular, is rather comic book styled. The adventures of the three protagonists are as grand and unserious that only a comic style would fit them. Yet the world is so large, and the mechanics are so elaborate, that you’ll need at least 70 GB on your drive and powerful hardware setup.
The criminal saga that starts with a failed robbery nine years ago continues nowadays, with two old fellows suddenly meeting another one to get involved in the new, greatest ever adventure. Michael, Trevor, and Frank have various abilities, so they can make a perfect gang… and when they don’t expect it, they have to. Jacking cars and robbing banks, playing in casino and running guns, and making the most reckless robberies in history – that’s what the game is about.
To do it all, you’ll have to master lots of arts. Success requires boxing and shooting, driving and talking, and decisions, decisions, decisions. The long story depends on your choices, and it has various endings, depending on what you choose.
The saga will take you through the entire San Andreas state, inspired by California, with its rich and poor, decent and criminal sides. Mexican and Armenian mafia, federal forces and independent villains, drugs, and guns, money and more money waiting for you. Last but not least: television and music made for this fictional world make it real.
As the game is available for consoles and PC, it lets you use the input of your choice, either mouse and keyboard or gamepad. Though even on a PC you use an Xbox gamepad, you’ll still need to grab your mouse sometimes. The response on PC depends on your hardware (consoles have no issues with this); but if It’s powerful enough to run the game at all, it should be enough to make it comfortable. At any moment you can press the Menu button and check the layout if you get lost in controls.
First, even the main storyline will take you several dozens of hours. Second, there are always side quests you can reach with your in-game phone. Third, the open-world lets you just roam it and enjoy exploring. Fourth, Rockstar Games constantly rolls out updates with new stories, characters, and locations, announces discounts, and holds events. And, fifth, now it’s gone online, with missions, casino, and social club. So we’ll play GTA V maybe even after the sixth installment is out, especially those on 8 gen consoles.
The Bottom Line
Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most popular games ever, and it’s among the definitive games of this decade, along with Minecraft and Fortnite. It will take at least an hour to install GTA V, but it offers endless hours of gameplay.
If you have missed the game before, it still makes sense to download GTA V with its online mode and complete update set.
Pros : Violence, nudity and obscenity;
Long detailed and twisted criminal story;
Even greater soundtrack;
Online mode and constant updates.
Cons : Violence, nudity and obscenity;
Rather high system requirements (even six years after);
The next installment may arrive soon.
