Hello Neighbor is one of the most famous stealth games released recently. You play as a boy who wants to sneak into the neighbor’s house to reveal the terrifying mystery of what he suddenly notices. Download Hello Neighbor for Windows, iOS/Android, PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch to experience it on whatever you like!

Graphics

Unlike many other stealth horrors, Hello Neighbor doesn’t abuse darkness and primitive jumpscares. Instead, you have a sunlit house where you can see and be seen as well, so you have to hide and sneak as silently as possible. You don’t have to turn off the light while playing, but, due to the importance of the sound, you better put your best headphones or connect the best acoustics.

Gameplay

Your character is a young boy who suddenly sees something strange going on in his neighbor’s house, right from the street. Of course, the curiosity drives him into the mysterious house, to uncover the secret. But the neighbor turns out a real paranoid, so his house is full of traps, and, in addition, he’s patrolling it personally. If you get caught, you lose.

The house, though, is completely interactive, so you can hide in closets or under beds, behind closed doors, or wherever you find suitable. Some puzzles you’ll need to solve require interacting with the most unexpected things. This part is not about logic: it requires some madness and experimenting fever.

On the other hand, the neighbor is AI-controlled, and this AI learns from your previous attempts. So expect traps if you decide to replay your last game in details. Better be ready or find some other way, no matter how mad it appears.

Maybe there’s too much madness for one, but the players form a large community, and they share their videos to show how they succeed to solve this or that fragment of the puzzle. So come on and join!

Controls

With Hello Neighbor you can use whatever you like: keyboard and mouse, gamepads, or touch controls. All you have to do is select the right version (If you have any choice at all, of course). The game is available for most platforms today, and with iOS update, you’ll have more options on your iPads and iPhones. The steam version also offers gamepad support, though not made perfectly. Anyway, the mechanics with hardware/virtual joystick and ad hoc buttons remains the same. The only platform the developers couldn’t handle is Switch: they didn’t use all the benefits of Joy-Cons.

Replay Value

The AI that encounters your past actions and sets new traps is the key. You cannot just repeat what you did the last time: you’ll need to find new ways to enter the neighbor’s house. Luckily, there is always a chance, as the neighbor isn’t that ubiquitous, and the community is always here to the rescue. There is only one ending, but the way you reach it is always different.

The Bottom Line

Illogical and irrational, Hello Neighbor has become an Internet cult, with YouTube-based community of players sharing their gameplay videos. The strangeness only makes the game more realistic, despite its caricature visuals. Even though today’s players have missed the romantic early period, with endless betas and mysteries coming and going, you still can install Hello Neighbor and enter the nightmare.

Conclusion

For those into stealth and horror it’s a must. But when you download Hello Neighbor, set your reminders not to spend your whole days in it.

Pros : Immersive gameplay;
Unexpected twists;
Large community around the game;
Reasonable system requirements

Cons : Irrational quests;
The initial thrill is gone, replaced with lots of video instructions
